I. N. Barygin
Igor N. Barygin, born in 1951, graduated Leningrad State Pedagogical Institut, the Faculty of History (1968-72); after working as a teacher of history in Ingush republic and military service, from 1974 became assistant professor, then associate professor at the of the chear of philosophy and scientiffical comunizm in Leningrad State Electrotehnical Institute. In 1994 he became full professor, head of the department of Sociology and Political science at Leningrad (St. Petersburg) State Electrotehnical University (in 1982 Candidate of Science in Philosophy, in 1992 Doctor in Political science, full professor in Sociology in 1994). From 1996 he had a job in the School of International Relations, from 1998 - became a professor of the chair of European studies, from 2003 – Coordinator of the Master’s program «New Independent States» (in Inglish) . He is a member of the Academic Council of the School of International Relations. Prof. Igor N.Barygin is presently teaching five Master’s program courses: “Area studies”, “Urgent Issues of Area Studies”, “Political studies in European region” “Sociological studies in European region”, “Right-wing and neofascist parties in European region”, and “Urgent Issues of Area Studies” (in English). He supervises over the academic practice of the students (in English), a research seminar (in English), constantly supervises over a spelling Master's (in Russian and English ), candidate theses and the theses for a doctor's degree. Over many years Professor Barygin had conducted research in Area studies and Political parties in European region. His Doctorate Thesis title is “Social bases and evolution of right-wing political parties in Western Europe”. Recently he has been studying also the problems of Regional designing. He has authored over 110 scientific publications many of which were published in France, Germany, Slovakia, USA. Among his publications there are monographies, dictionaries, textbooks («Area studies», «Sociology», «Political science»: Area studies. M.:Aspekt-press, 2007, 399 p., Bases of Area studies. Ed. by I.Barygin. M.: Gardariki, 2007, 399 p. International area studies. SPb : Piter, 2008, 250 c. – in Russian, articles, comments to the acts. His textbooks, monographies with his participation and articles are published as in the largest publishing houses of Russia ("Aspect - press" Moscow, "Gardariki" Moscow, Publishing houses of Saint Petersburg, Novosibirsk, Rostov on Don, etc.), as in the largest Publishing houses such countries, as the USA, France, Germany, etc. His publications are widely cited by the authors working in largest universities and academic centers of various regions of Russia (Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Novosibirsk, Tomsk, Petrozavodsk, Perm, Rostov on Don, Kuban, Stavropol, etc.), and of some foreign countries (the Great Britain, Cheh Republic, Norway, Italy, Poland, etc.) Professor Barygin is a member of “additional council” of «Russian expert revive» (scientific journal), and a member of one Doctorate Dissertation Councils of the School of International Relations. He is a member of Russian Political Science Association, Russian society of Sociology, he was a Member of board of the St. Petersburg Sociology Association (2002-2006). Awards: medal commemorating the Tercentenary of St. Petersburg (2003). Honorary title: The honorable worker of the Higher education of Russian Federation (2003) Additional Info: Igor N. Barygin has an operational experience in the international nongovernmental organizations («Care» 1992-1993), consultant to a number of government and non-government organizations. Professor Вarygin is a frequent guest commentator on international issues in Russian and foreign Mass Media.
