The autocrat of the breakfast-table

This collection of essays takes the form of conversations between the unnamed author and other residents of a New England boarding house. Known only by their professions, place at the breakfast table, or other distinguishing characteristics, the conversants discuss a wide range of topics. Most essays are accompanied by a similarly themed poem.
