<div>The individual assignments given in teaching draughtsmanship are of special significance, since doing them consolidates the knowledge the student has acquired from his textbooks, develops his spatial imagination, and teaches him to use handbooks, reference works, and other data in making drawings.</div><div><br /></div><div>The basic constructions involved in the individual exercises in this book should be done in class under the supervision of the instructor. This approach fosters the assimilation of the material, speeds up the making of drawings, reduces the number of mistakes in them, and ensures that the finished work will be promptly handed in.</div><div><br /></div><div>This book of exercises consists of 22 chapters, arranged in the order of increasing difficulty. Each chapter contains 16-20 variants of its basic theme, which provides sufficient individual assignments for a class of students.</div><div><br /></div><div>In order to save time in giving out individual assignments and collecting the finished exercises, it is good practice to assign each student a definite variant (by number) in each chapter for a whole term or for the whole school year.</div><div><br /></div><div>Each assignment should be done after studying the corresponding section of the author’s textbook (S. Bogolyubov and A. Voinov. Engineering Drawing, Mir Publishers, 1973). Some exercises should be done in a notebook, and others, on sheets of drawing paper of the appropriate size.</div><div><br /></div><div>Posters are of great help to students and should be on display in every drawing room.</div><div><br /></div><div>Only by doing his full quota of exercises in all the chapters of this volume will the student be able to master the course in machine drawing and acquire the practical skills of draughtsmanship needed for studying other courses and for further work on his own.</div>
