Abstract: Focuses on the consequences of the metabolism of ethanol in the body and how, as a result, alcoholics differ from nonalcoholics biochemically and pathologically. Includes chapters on alcohol andlipid disorders; the interaction of ethanol with other drugs; alcohol and the liver, hematologic system, digestive tract, pancreas, and kidney; and discusses the cardiovascular effects of alcohol and the effects of alcohol abuse on skeletal muscle. Also discusses the nutritional aspects of alcoholism and biological markers of alcoholism.
