Fear

In Fear, Spanidou returns to the world of Anna Karystinou and focuses in on a major turning point in her life. Raised by her military-minded father to be strong and resilient, Anna has endured a friendless childhood of moving from town to town, sleeping on army cots, and facing down her every fear. But now her family has once again settled in a new town, and when Anna turns thirteen her carefully constructed world flies apart on the wings of unexpected terrors - the least of which is a serial killer who has brutally murdered several young women. As Anna grapples with the beginnings of puberty and a heightened awareness of her sexuality, she finds herself inexplicably attracted to Vera, a girl completely unlike anyone she's ever known. Ignoring her well-trained instincts for the first time, Anna creates a bond that threatens to break her spirit when she is forced to end the friendship as her family moves once more.
