Rethinking Gregory of Nyssa

This book reexamines the place of Nyssa in the supposed founding of a distinctively Eastern trinitarian tradition, tolls the funeral bell on a misreading of his trinitarianism that has been pernicious to ecumenical understanding, urges a new reading of his pedagogy of desire, explores how his views on asceticism and desire find new resonance in the context of post-modern gender theory, and reflects a new appreciation of Nyssa's distinctive apophaticism.
