Rewriting nursing history

by Celia Davies

Cover of Rewriting nursing history

This book addresses nursing reforms in the hospitals in the last century and in doing so itt raises new questions about the character of those reforms and the way in which they still affect us today. There is a focus on 'professional matters' such as work organisation and training and a discussion of nursing as 'women's work.' Nursing itself, it is argued, is not a homogeneous profession. This book shows nursing history to be a plurality of issues embracing social history, health professionalism, feminist questions and the history of labour and welfare.--From back cover.
