A fictionalized account of the 1869 Cardiff Giant hoax perpetrated by George Hull, heir to a cigar fortune. On hearing reports that giants may have inhabited prehistoric America, he has sculptors make a huge statue, buries it on a farm in Cardiff, New York, and digs it up, claiming a find. Lots of people fall for it.
