Zhiyi (; 538–597 CE) also called Tiantai Dashi () and Zhizhe (, "Wise One"), was a Chinese Buddhist monk, philosopher, meditation teacher, and exegete. He is considered to be the founder of the Tiantai Buddhist tradition, as well as its fourth patriarch.
