Altaelva
Altaelva (; ; ) is the third-longest river in Finnmark county, Norway. The river begins in the mountains and lakes in Kautokeino Municipality, near the border with Finnmark county and Finland, just south of Reisa National Park. The long river then runs northward into Alta Municipality where it flows out into the Altafjorden in the town of Alta. The river has carved out Sautso, one of the largest canyons in Europe on its way from the high Finnmarksvidda plateau down to the sea. The villages of Kautokeino and Masi are located along the river, in addition to the town of Alta.

Altafjord
The Altafjord (; ; ) is a fjord in Alta Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The long fjord stretches from the town of Alta in the south to the islands of Stjernøya and Seiland. The long river Altaelva empties into the fjord at the town of Alta. At Stjernøya and Seiland islands, the fjord splits into two straits before emptying into the Norwegian Sea. Some of the larger side-branches off the main fjord include Langfjorden, Kåfjorden, and Korsfjorden.

Iešjávri is a large lake in Finnmark county, Norway. The lake lies on the Finnmarksvidda plateau along the border of three municipalities: Alta, Kautokeino, and Karasjok. The lake is about northwest of the village of Karasjok, about northeast of the village of Masi, and about southeast of the town of Alta.

Sautso
Sautso (), also referred as Alta Canyon, is a canyon (valley) along the river Altaelva in Finnmark county, Norway. The valley is located in Alta Municipality, just north of the border with Kautokeino Municipality. The canyon is about long and about deep, making it the largest canyon of Northern Europe. The canyon begins just downstream (north) from the Alta Power Station. The river flows down from the Finnmarksvidda plateau (elevation: ) into the canyon (elevation: ), so the walls of the canyon clearly show many sedimentary layers.

Bossekop
, , or is one of the three boroughs comprising the town of Alta in Alta Municipality, Finnmark county, Norway. It is located on the western end of the town, along the Altafjorden, along the European route E06 highway. Bossekop is an old Sami trading post and marketplace. The name comes from the Sami word meaning Whale Bay. The Rock carvings at Alta lie just west of Bossekop, near the Juovvajávri bay.
Kovvatnet
or is a lake in Alta Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. It is located on the mainland, immediately north of the Langfjorden and about straight east of the village of Øksfjordbotn (in Loppa Municipality). The lake has two small dams on the southeast end of the lake. The dams are part of a hydroelectric power plant, located just east of the lake.

Stjernsundet
Stjernsundet is a strait in Finnmark, Norway. It separates the island of Stjernøya from the mainland. Stjernsundet leads from the outer part of Altafjorden, and opens up westwards into Lopphavet. During the World War II Operation Source, a number of British X-crafts found their way from Lopphavet through Stjernsundet and succeeded in attacking and damaging the German battleship Tirpitz in Kåfjorden, an inner branch of Altafjorden.

Komagfjord
or is a village in Alta Municipality in Finnmark county, Norway. The village is located along the Altafjorden on a fairly isolated peninsula in the northeastern part of the municipality. There is one ferry connection to the rest of Norway, but no road connections. The village looks across the fjord at the large island of Seiland. The village is home to Komagfjord Church.
