Ancient ports and harbours

Portus was a large artificial harbour complex of Ancient Rome located at the mouth of the Tiber on the Tyrrhenian Sea. It was established by Claudius and enlarged by Trajan to supplement the nearby port of Ostia.. At its maximum extent the complex covered an area of about 350 hectares and included many horrea and an imperial palace.

Debal (also called Daybul, Daibul or Dēwal) was a commercial town and an ancient port in Sindh, now a province of Pakistan.

thumb|Izola, Slovenia, Haliaetum excavations Haliaetum was a Roman port that stood in the area of Simon Bay, next to the modern village of Jagodje, on the northern Adriatic coast of the Istrian peninsula. Remains visible at extreme low tide include parts of its pier as well as various port buildings. Some excavations have been carried out in recent years, with more excavations planned in the future.
