Arthropod superfamilies

page 1
Palaemonoidea
Palaemonoidea is a large superfamily of shrimp, containing nearly 1,000 species. The position of the family Typhlocarididae is unclear, although the monophyly of a group containing the remaining seven families is well supported. Anchistioididae Borradaile, 1915 Desmocarididae Borradaile, 1915 Euryrhynchidae Holthuis, 1950 Gnathophyllidae Dana, 1852 Hymenoceridae Ortmann, 1890 Kakaducarididae Bruce, 1993 Palaemonidae Rafinesque, 1815 Typhlocarididae Annandale & Kemp, 1913
Nephropoidea
Nephropoidea is a superfamily of decapod crustaceans. It contains the true lobsters in the Nephropidae (including the rare thaumastochelid lobsters), and three fossil families: Chilenophoberidae, Protastacidae and Stenochiridae. Their closest relatives are the reef lobsters.
Penaeoidea
Penaeoidea is the larger of the two superfamilies of prawns. It comprises eight families, three of which are known only from fossils. The fossil record of the group stretches back to Aciculopoda, discovered in Famennian sediments in Oklahoma. † Aciculopodidae (1 genus, 1 species) † Aegeridae (2 genera, 25 species) Aristeidae (10 genera, 28 species) Benthesicymidae (5 genera, 43 species) † Carpopenaeidae (1 genus, 3 species) Penaeidae (48 genera, 286 species) Sicyoniidae (1 genus, 53 species) Solenoceridae (10 genera, 86 species)
Pandaloidea
The Pandaloidea are a superfamily of shrimp, comprising the large family Pandalidae (about 200 species) and the much smaller Chlorotocellidae (seven species).
Eriophyoidea
Eriophyoidea are a superfamily of herbivorous mites. All post-embryonic instars lack the third and fourth pairs of legs, and the respiratory system is also absent.
Nematocarcinoidea
Nematocarcinoidea is a superfamily of caridean shrimp, comprising five families – Eugonatonotidae, Lipkiidae, Nematocarcinidae, Rhynchocinetidae, and Xiphocarididae. Their shared feature is the presence of strap-like epipods on at least the first three pairs of pereiopods, and a blunt molar process.
Cypridoidea
Cypridoidea is a superfamily of ostracods in the suborder Cypridocopina.
Hypogastruroidea
Hypogastruroidea is a superfamily of springtails in the order Poduromorpha. There are at least 2 families and more than 700 described species in Hypogastruroidea.
Rhodacaroidea
Rhodacaroidea is a superfamily of mites in the order Mesostigmata. There are 6 families with more than 900 described species in Rhodacaroidea, found worldwide.
Pterygotioidea
Pterygotioidea (the name deriving from the type genus Pterygotus, meaning "winged one") is a superfamily of eurypterids, an extinct group of aquatic arthropods. Pterygotioids were the most derived members of the infraorder Diploperculata and the sister group of the adelophthalmoid eurypterids. The group includes the basal and small hughmilleriids, the larger and specialized slimonids and the famous pterygotids which were equipped with robust and powerful cheliceral claws.
Phronimoidea
Phronimoidea is a superfamily of planktonic amphipod crustaceans in the sub-order Hyperiidea.
Neanuroidea
Neanuroidea is a superfamily of springtails in the order Poduromorpha. There are at least 3 families and more than 730 described species in Neanuroidea.
Entomobryoidea
Entomobryoidea is also the old name of Entomobryomorpha, when these were placed in the "Arthropleona"
Onychiuroidea
Onychiuroidea is a superfamily of springtails in the order Poduromorpha. There are about 5 families and more than 630 described species in Onychiuroidea.
Mycteropoidea
Mycteropoidea is an extinct superfamily of eurypterids, an extinct group of chelicerate arthropods commonly known as "sea scorpions". It is one of four superfamilies classified as part of the suborder Stylonurina. Mycteropoids have been recovered from Europe, Russia, South America and South Africa. Mycteropoid specimens are often fragmentary, making it difficult to establish relationships between the included taxa. Only two mycteropoid taxa are known from reasonable complete remains, Hibbertopterus scouleri and H. wittebergensis.

Phalangodoidea
The Phalangodoidea are a superfamily of the harvestman arachnids in infraorder Grassatores with three recognized families and 220 species. It is not to be confused with the similarly spelled subfamily Phalangioidea, which is also a harvestman superfamily, but within the suborder Eupnoi.
Oniscoidea
Oniscoidea is a superfamily of isopod crustaceans, which includes most of the land-living woodlice. It includes the "common woodlouse", Oniscus asellus, in the namesake family Oniscidae.
Kokomopteroidea
Kokomopteroidea is an extinct superfamily of eurypterids, an extinct group of chelicerate arthropods commonly known as "sea scorpions". It is one of four superfamilies classified as part of the suborder Stylonurina. Kokomopteroids have been recovered from deposits of Early Silurian to Late Devonian age in the United States and the United Kingdom.
Polycopoidea
Polycopoidea is a superfamily of marine ostracods. It is the only superfamily in the suborder Cladocopina.
