Miller–Urey experiment
chemical experiment that simulated conditions on the early Earth, and tested the origin of life
animal testing
use of animals as models of the human organism
vivisection
thumb|An anesthetized pig used for training a surgeon Vivisection () is surgery conducted for experimental purposes on a living organism, typically animals with a central nervous system, to view living internal structure. The word is, more broadly, used as a pejorative catch-all term for experimentation on live animals by organizations opposed to animal experimentation, but the term is rarely used by practicing scientists. Human vivisection, such as live organ harvesting, has been perpetrated as a form of torture.
Chargaff's rules
two rules about the percentage of A, C, G, and T in DNA strands
Avery–MacLeod–McCarty experiment
1944 experiment by O. Avery, C. MacLeod and M. McCarty that DNA is the substance that causes bacterial transformation
experimental evolution
use of laboratory and field experiments to explore evolutionary dynamics
E. coli long-term evolution experiment
study of E. coli bacteria evolution in controlled conditions
Three Rs
guiding principles for more ethical use of animals in science
Luria-Delbrück experiment
experiment showing that in bacteria, genetic mutations arise in the absence of selection, rather than being a response to selection.
squid giant axon
very large nerve fiber that controls part of the water jet propulsion system in squid
peppered moth evolution
significance of the peppered moth in evolutionary biology
Krogh's principle
remote controlled animal
Animals controlled remotely by humans
laboratory specimen
biological specimen taken by sampling
