Castes

The Cagots () were a persecuted minority who lived in the west of France and northern Spain: the Navarrese Pyrenees, Basque provinces, Béarn, Aragón, Gascony and Brittany. Evidence of the group exists as far back as 1000 CE. The name they were known by varied across the regions where they lived.

Chhetri (Kshetri, Kshettri, Kshetry or Chhettri), ( ; IAST: Kṣetrī) historically called Kshettriya or Kshetriya or Khas are Nepali speaking people historically associated with the warrior class and administration, some of whom trace their origin to migration from medieval India. Chhetri was a caste of administrators, governors, warriors and military elites in the medieval Khas Kingdom and Gorkha Kingdom (later unified Kingdom of Nepal). The Akhdām (; singular: Khadami), are an Arabic-speaking ethnic or socio-economic group whose members live in Yemen. Although the Muhamashīn are Arabic-speaking Muslims just like most other Yemenis, they are considered to be at the very bottom of the supposedly abolished caste ladder, they are socially segregated from other Yemenis and they are mostly confined to menial jobs in the country's major cities. According to unofficial estimates, the Muhamashīn number is between 500,000 and 3,500,000 individuals.

Historically, many Malagasy ethnic groups lived in highly stratified caste-based social orders in which the Andriana were the highest strata. They were above the Hova (free commoner castes) and Andevo (slaves). The Andriana and the Hova were a part of Fotsy, while the Andevo were Mainty in local terminology.

The Andevo, along with the other social strata, have also historically existed in other large Malagasy ethnic groups such as the Betsileo people.

Thakuri (Nepali: ठकुरी), meaning “master of the estate,” originally referred to ruling chieftains—many of Magar origin—across the ancient Magarat region, which later fragmented into the Baise (22) and Chaubisi (24) principalities. Over time, these Magar leaders were Sanskritized as high-caste Kshatriya, and their descendants, including branches of the Shah dynasty, came to be known collectively as Thakuri.

The Yibir, also referred to as the Yibbir, the Yebir, or the Yibro, are a caste of Somali people. They have traditionally been endogamous. Their hereditary occupations have been magic making, leather work, the dispensing of traditional medicine and the making of amulets. They belong to the Sab clan and sometimes referred to as a minority clan, they perform menial tasks.

The Madhiban (Somali: Madhibaan, Arabic:مطيبان, also spelled ماديبان, Madeban, Madebaan, or Madebban) alternately known as Reer Sheikh Madhibe or Mohammed Gorgaarte, are a prominent Somali sub-clan of the Gorgaarte, which belongs to the Hawiye conglomerate of clans. They are scattered throughout the Horn of Africa, with the majority residing in the northern part of Somalia (Somaliland, North Eastern and Puntland) .
