As of the 2010 Census, its population was 1,311. Verkhoyansk holds the record for the highest temperature ever recorded north of the Arctic Circle, with , and it also holds the record for the lowest temperature ever recorded in Asia, , the largest ever temperature range recorded. The cold record is shared with Oymyakon.
