Cretaceous cephalopods

A squid () is a mollusc with an elongated soft body, large eyes, eight arms, and two tentacles in the orders Myopsida, Oegopsida, and Bathyteuthida (though many other molluscs within the broader Neocoleoidea are also called squid despite not strictly fitting these criteria). Like all other cephalopods, squid have a distinct head, bilateral symmetry, and a mantle. They are mainly soft-bodied, like octopuses, but have a small internal skeleton in the form of a rod-like gladius or pen, made of chitin.

Hibolithes is a genus of belemnite that lived from the Middle Jurassic to the Early Cretaceous, and has been found in Antarctica, Greenland, Iran, Europe, South America, and New Zealand. In 2020, this genus was found in the Pedawan Formation (Tithonian – Hauterivian) in Sarawak, on the island of Borneo (Malaysia).

Palaeoctopodidae is an extinct family of incirrate octopuses that lived during the Late Cretaceous. It includes two genera, Keuppia and Palaeoctopus.

Cylindroteuthis is a genus of belemnite that lived from the Early Jurassic to the Early Cretaceous. Its fossils have been found in Asia, Europe, North America, and New Zealand.
