The species are generally dark in coloration, often quite blackish, for which reason they are commonly called crows. As usual for their subfamily, they are poisonous due to feeding on milkweeds and other toxic plants as caterpillars. The latter are aposematically colored to warn off predators from eating them, and the adult butterflies are often mimicked by unrelated species which are not or less poisonous. File
Parantica
Parantica, commonly called tigers, is an Old World genus of butterflies in subfamily Danainae of family Nymphalidae. They are found in southeastern Asia, Indonesia, Papua-New Guinea, and the Philippines. Danaini
The Danaini are a tribe of brush-footed butterflies (family Nymphalidae). The tribe's type genus Danaus contains the well-known monarch butterfly (D. plexippus) and is also the type genus of the tribe's subfamily, the milkweed butterflies (Danainae).
Amauris
Amauris is a genus of nymphalid butterflies in the Danainae subfamily. Amauris niavius niavius, Amauris echeria jacksoni, and Amauris dominicanus are mimicked by Papilio dardanus females. Other mimics of Amauris are found among other species of Papilio, the nymphaline genus Pseudacraea, and Hypolimnas anthedon.
