The film stars Rahul Roy and Anu Aggarwal in pivotal roles. The first installment of the Aashiqui series, the film is known for its music, with composer duo Nadeem–Shravan establishing their careers along with that of singer Kumar Sanu under the T-Series music label.

Sadak
Sadak (; ) is a 1991 Indian Hindi-language romantic action thriller film directed by Mahesh Bhatt. It stars Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt. The film is one of the highest-grossing movies of the year 1991. It is an unofficial remake of 1976 American film Taxi Driver. This film was remade in Tamil as Appu (2000). A sequel, Sadak 2, was released on 28 August 2020 on Disney+ Hotstar, to extremely negative reviews.

The film stars Ajay Devgn, Kunal Khemu, Pooja Bhatt, Sonali Bendre and Nagarjuna. Zakhm was based on the life of Mahesh Bhatt's mother Shirin Mohammad Ali, while his daughter Pooja essayed her character in this film.

It is about an elderly Maharashtrian couple living in Mumbai who come to terms with the loss of their only son. This was the screen debut of Anupam Kher. The film had music by Ajit Verman and lyrics by Vasant Dev. It was produced and distributed by Rajshri Productions. It was chosen as India's official entry for the 1985 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film and was not nominated.

Kartoos () is a 1999 Indian Hindi action thriller film directed by Mahesh Bhatt and starring Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff and Manisha Koirala. It was the last release of Mahesh Bhatt as a director until the release of Sadak 2 (2020). The film borrows its plot idea from the 1993 film Point of No Return, which in turn is a remake of the French film La Femme Nikita, where Bridget Fonda essays a role which is very similar to that character of Sanjay Dutt.

Naajayaz () is a 1995 Indian action thriller film directed by Mahesh Bhatt and produced on a budget of 26.8 million. It was a critical and commercial success. It stars Ajay Devgn, Naseeruddin Shah, Juhi Chawla, Deepak Tijori, Gulshan Grover, Ashish Vidyarthi and Reema Lagoo. Naajayaz was theatrically released in India on 17 March 1995. Naajayaz received two nominations at the 41st Filmfare Awards: Best Actor for Devgn and Best Supporting Actor for Shah. It later remade in Pakistan as Najiaz(1997) starting Nadeem, Babar Ali and Jan Rambo
