It was serialized in Kodansha's manga magazine Weekly Shōnen Magazine from June 2008 to July 2013, with its chapters collected in 26 volumes. It tells the story of a high school girl named Sakura Sakurakōji who is trained in martial arts and a male transfer student with mysterious powers named Rei Ōgami. Twenty-six original episodes aired in 2002 on television and three additional bonus ones were released on DVD as original video animation. The series features each characters designed by Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, and written by Kazunori Itō. The score was composed by Yuki Kajiura, marking her second collaboration with Mashimo.

Set in the fictional city of Lux, the story focuses on Ichise, a stoic prize fighter who loses an arm and a leg after offending an unnamed figure. Written by Chiaki J. Konaka, with original character design by Yoshitoshi Abe, the series was produced by Yasuyuki Ueda and was broadcast on Fuji Television and its affiliates from April to September 2003.
