Røssvatnet
or is a lake and reservoir in Hattfjelldal Municipality and Hemnes Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It has been the site of human occupation since the Stone Age. Its area of makes it the second largest lake in Norway by surface area. Without the dam which has regulated the lake since 1957, it would be and the third largest lake in Norway. Its depth is , its volume is estimated at , and its surface elevation is above sea level.
Vefsna
, , or is the largest river in Nordland county, Norway. It is long and drains a watershed of . Its headwaters lie in the mountains of Børgefjell National Park at the lake Simskardvatnet. The river runs through Hattfjelldal Municipality, Grane Municipality, and Vefsn Municipality. The southern parts of the river are sometimes called the river Susna. The river flows north, not far from the Swedish border, and some of the minor tributaries come from Sweden. At the town of Mosjøen, the river discharges into the Vefsnfjorden. The Laksforsen waterfall lies along its course.

or is a lake in Hattfjelldal Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The lake is located about east of Røsvatnet and about west of the border with Sweden. The nearby lake Krutvatnet lies about to the south.
Ranseren
, also known as or , is a lake on the border between Norway and Sweden. The Norwegian side lies in Hattfjelldal Municipality in Nordland county (and it is inside Børgefjell National Park). The Swedish side of the lake is called Bije-Ransaren, which means "the upper Ransaren" and this part lies in Vilhelmina Municipality in Västerbotten County.
Krutvatnet
or is a lake in Hattfjelldal Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It lies about east of the lake Røsvatnet and about west of the border with Sweden. The Norwegian National Road 73 runs on the southern shore of the lake on its way from the village of Hattfjelldal to the village of Tärnaby in Sweden. The word krut means gunpowder in Norwegian and Swedish, but the name does not come from that, but is a loan from the Sami name.

Unkervatnet
or is a lake in Hattfjelldal Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is a good lake for fishing lake trout and Arctic char both during summer and winter. The river flowing into the lake from the east is called Skarmodalselva, and the outflowing river is called Unkerelva (which itself flows into the river Vefsna). For tourists, there are two places available by the shoreside: Ørnes camping at the eastern end of the lake, and Tjolmen, situated on the north side of the lake's middle. Simskardvatnet
or is a lake in Hattfjelldal Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. It is the headwaters of the river Vefsna. The lake lies within Børgefjell National Park, just east of the municipal border with Grane Municipality.
Varntresk
Varntresk or Varntresken is a village in Hattfjelldal Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The village is located on the eastern shore of the large lake Røsvatnet. The lake Famvatnet lies about east of the village. Varntresk Church is located in this village, and it serves the northern part of the municipality. There is also a small school in Varntresk. The village of Hattfjelldal, the municipal centre, lies about to the south.
