British-American heavy metal supergroup

Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon's music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk, electronica, experimental and classical music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" (or "metal operas") because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, usually with each one being represented by a unique vocalist.

Avantasia is a German supergroup metal opera project created by Tobias Sammet, vocalist of the band Edguy. It has been characterized as a rock opera, as it features the contributions of various vocalists and musicians and it consists of concept albums. The name is a blend of the words Avalon and fantasia ('fantasy') and describes "a world beyond human imagination" (a quotation from the booklet of the debut album).

Brazilian-American heavy metal band

Borknagar is a Norwegian progressive metal band with black metal and folk influences. It was founded in Bergen in 1995 by Øystein Garnes Brun primarily as a black metal band before later switching to a more melodic and progressive style. Borknagar's lyrics often deal with philosophy, paganism, nature and the cosmos. The band has released twelve studio albums.

Bloodbath is a Swedish death metal supergroup from Stockholm, formed in 1998. The band has released six full-length albums, two EPs and two DVDs depicting their performances at Wacken Open Air (in 2005) and Bloodstock Open Air (in 2010). The group consists of Martin Axenrot (ex-Opeth), Anders Nyström (ex-Katatonia) and Nick Holmes (Paradise Lost).

Nailbomb is an American heavy metal band formed in 1993 as a side project by Brazilian musician Max Cavalera (then the frontman of Sepultura) and British musician Alex Newport of Fudge Tunnel. They play a combination of primarily industrial metal and thrash metal, with elements of crust punk and sludge metal. The band recorded one studio album, Point Blank, and played a warmup live performance and their only official gig for 29 years at the 1995 Dynamo Open Air Festival two days later, after which the band disbanded. The band reunited for the first time in 29 years in Tempe, Arizona in Novembe

The group consists of vocalist Joel Ekelöf, guitarist Cody Lee Ford, bassist Stefan Stenberg, drummer Martin Lopez and keyboardist Lars Åhlund. They are currently signed to Silver Lining and have released seven studio albums. Their most recent studio album, Reliance, was released on 16 January 2026.

AxeWound is a British-Canadian heavy metal supergroup formed in 2012 comprising lead vocalist Liam Cormier of Cancer Bats, guitarist and co-vocalist Matthew Tuck, and drummer Jason Bowld, both of Bullet for My Valentine, guitarist Mike Kingswood of Glamour of the Kill, bassist Joe Copcutt of Zoax and Rise to Remain.

Kotipelto is a Finnish power metal self-named band by Timo Kotipelto, created during a hiatus in activity for power metal band Stratovarius. Kotipelto has been commercially well received in their native Finland, with a top 10 single "Beginning" from his first release Waiting for the Dawn, and lyrics often concentrating on ancient Egyptian themes.

Sinsaenum is a multinational blackened death metal supergroup, formed in 2016. The band features French guitarists Frédéric Leclercq and Stéphane Buriez, American vocalist Sean Zatorsky in a co-lead role with Hungarian vocalist Attila Csihar, French bassist Heimoth and Portuguese drummer André Joyzi. Up until his death in late July 2021, American drummer Joey Jordison performed drum duties. Sinsaenum released their debut album Echoes of the Tortured in July 2016.

Voodoocult was a multinational thrash metal supergroup formed in 1993 by German Phillip Boa, vocalist of the alternative band Phillip Boa & The Voodooclub. The project was especially notable for the reputation of the participating musicians, such as Jim Martin (of Faith No More), Chuck Schuldiner (of Death), Slayer drummer Dave Lombardo, and Mille Petrozza of Kreator. The band released two albums and disbanded in 1996 after the release of the second album and a tour.

VUUR ("fire", "passion" or "drive") is a Dutch progressive metal band formed in 2016 by singer and lyricist Anneke van Giersbergen and musicians she had worked with previously in bands like The Gentle Storm or her own solo band.

Symfonia was a short-lived symphonic power metal supergroup formed in 2010 by Andre Matos (vocals), Timo Tolkki (guitars), Jari Kainulainen (bass), Mikko Härkin (keyboards) and Uli Kusch (drums). On February 18, 2011, the band made its debut performance at the Finnish Metal Expo. The band released its only album, In Paradisum, in March 2011.
