Heteroptera families

page 2
Urostylididae
Urostylididae is a family of true bugs and is considered a basal or "primitive" family within the stink-bug lineage. They are found only in Asia. Older works used the spelling Urostylidae but this clashes with the name used for a protozoan family and a spelling correction (emendation) has been suggested that also avoids the confusion created by homonyms. The family name Urolabididae has also been used for some members in the past.
Polyctenidae
The Polyctenidae are a rarely collected family of parasitic bugs of the superfamily Cimicoidea. Polyctenidae species or bat bugs are obligate, hematophagous ectoparasites of bats. These insects are not to be confused with cimicid bat bugs, which are members of the family Cimicidae. A significant relationship appears to occur between the family groups and the species of hosts that indicates co-evolution and specialization. Polyctenidae and Cimicidae are considered to be sister taxa.
Helotrephidae
Helotrephidae is a family of aquatic bugs found mainly in the tropical regions with many species in the Oriental Realm and a few from Africa, Madagascar and South America. These bugs are found swimming or walking amid submerged vegetation in stagnant or slow moving, shaded freshwater in forest habitats. They are a sister group of the Pleidae.
Thyreocoridae
The Thyreocoridae are a family of shield bugs, known by common names that include negro bugs or ebony bugs. Historically, a few authors have called this family "Corimelaenidae" (e.g.), but the name Thyreocoridae, published in 1843, has nomenclatural priority over Corimelaenidae, published in 1872. Other classifications have placed them as a subfamily within the broad family Cydnidae.
Colobathristidae
Colobathristidae is a family of true bugs in the order Hemiptera. There are more than 20 genera and 90 described species in Colobathristidae.
Potamocoridae
Potamocoridae is a family of true water bugs. The family was first scientifically described by Robert L. Usinger in 1941.
Pachynomidae
Pachynomidae is a family of true bugs within the suborder Cimicomorpha. 23 species in 5 genera are known.
Megarididae
Megarididae is a family of true bugs in the superfamily Pentatomoidea. The family consists of a single extant genus Megaris with about 16 species restricted to the Neotropical Realm and a fossil is known from Dominican amber.
Plokiophilidae
The Plokiophilidae or web-lovers are a small group of insects belonging to the true bugs (Heteroptera). Nine genera (one fossil, from Baltic amber) and 20 species are currently known.
Meschiidae
Meschiidae is a family of true bugs in the order Hemiptera. It comprises at least three genera and about five described species within the Meschiidae family.
Saileriolidae
Saileriolidae is a family of true bugs and is considered a basal or "primitive" family within the stink bug lineage. They are found only in Asia. Originally included within the family Urostylididae, the group has recently been recognized as a separate family-rank lineage.

Hypsipterygidae
Hypsipterygidae is a small family of bugs in the order Hemiptera, known from Africa and Southeast Asia. There are 4 extant species in one genus, Hypsipteryx, and one fossil species. They resemble, but are unrelated to, the family Tingidae.
Parastrachiidae
Parastrachiidae is a family of true bugs belonging to the order Hemiptera. It had been considered to be a subfamily under family Cydnidae, but it was raised to family status in 2002.
Stemmocryptidae
Stemmocryptidae is a very small family of bugs in the order Hemiptera, known from the ʻSisimangum village in the Madang Province of Papua New Guinea. Only one species in one genus is known, Stemmocrypta antennata.
