Holocentridae
Holocentridae is a family of beryciform ray-finned fish, the only family of the suborder Holocentroidei. The members of the subfamily Holocentrinae are typically known as squirrelfish, while the members of Myripristinae typically are known as soldierfish. In Hawaii, they are known by the Japanese name or the Hawaiian .
Holocentrus
Holocentrus is a genus of squirrelfishes found in the Atlantic Ocean.

Plectrypops
Plectrypops is a genus of soldierfish containing two extant species, with one species in the Indo-Pacific, and another in the western Atlantic and the Caribbean. They are red and reach a length of approximately 15 cm (6 in). Some members of this genus are also known from fossil remains.
Myripristinae
Myripristinae is a subfamily of the ray-finned fish family Holocentridae. They are typically known as soldierfish.

Holocentrinae
Holocentrinae is a subfamily of Holocentridae containing 40 recognized species and one proposed species. Its members are typically known as squirrelfish and all are nocturnal. All three genera in the subfamily are found in the Atlantic and Holocentrus is restricted to this ocean. Most species in genera Neoniphon and Sargocentron are from the Indo-Pacific region and several of these occur in the Indian Ocean west of the southern tip of India. A fossil genus of the subfamily is Eoholocentrum from the Early Eocene of Italy.
Caproberyx
Caproberyx is an extinct genus of marine acanthomorph ray-finned fish, possibly a holocentrid, from the Late Cretaceous.
