Insect subgenera

page 1
Psithyrus
Cuckoo bumblebees are members of the subgenus Psithyrus in the bumblebee genus Bombus. Until the 1990s, Psithyrus was considered to constitute a separate genus. They are a specialized socially parasitic lineage which parasitises the nests of 'true' bumblebees; they do not collect pollen or establish their own nests. Cuckoo bumblebees do not create a worker caste and produce only male and female reproductives. They are considered inquilines in the colonies of 'true' bumblebees.
Polyura
Polyura is a subgenus of butterflies also referred to as Nawab butterflies and belonging to the brush-footed butterfly subfamily Charaxinae, or leafwing butterflies. Like the large and conspicuous forest queens (subgenus Euxanthe), they belong to the genus Charaxes, unique genus of the tribe Charaxini.
Epomis

Dendromyrmex
genus of insects
Chamyla
Chamyla is a subgenus of moths of the genus Isochlora of the family Noctuidae.
Argiolaus
Argiolaus is a genus of butterflies in the family Lycaenidae. Most authorities consider Argiolaus to be a subgenus of Iolaus. The members (species) of this genus are found in the Afrotropical realm.
Paravespula
Paravespula is a small subgenus of yellowjacket wasps, including some of the best-known wasp species in the world: the German wasp, Vespula germanica; the eastern yellowjacket Vespula maculifrons; the western yellowjacket Vespula pensylvanica; and the common wasp, Vespula vulgaris. It is occasionally treated as a separate genus, but this is not widely accepted.
Trichosilia
Trichosilia was a genus of moths of the family Noctuidae, it is now considered a subgenus of Feltia.
Arctophila
genus of insects
Nowickia
Nowickia is a subgenus of large flies in the family Tachinidae.
Drosophila
subgenus of Drosophila
Ramonda
genus of insects
Ballana
subgenus of Gloridonus in the leafhopper family Cicadellidae
Masalia
Masalia was a genus of moths of the family Noctuidae. It is now considered to be a subgenus of Heliothis.
Dudaica
The subgenus Dudaica belongs to genus Drosophila and consists of two species, Drosophila malayana (Takada, 1976) and Drosophila senilis Duda, 1926.
Grumia
Grumia is a subgenus of moths of the genus Isochlora of the family Noctuidae.
Cynthia
subgenus of insects
Alpigenobombus
Alpigenobombus is a subgenus of nectar-robbing bumblebees found in Palearctic. This subgenus is easily identified by the unique, six-toothed mandibles of the females, a specialized adaptation for robbing nectar from tubular flowers.
Pyrobombus
Pyrobombus (known as fiery-tailed bees) is a subgenus of bumblebees, with centres of diversity in Central Asia and North America. Nearly a fifth of all Bombus species fall within Pyrobombus. Pyrobombus bees face issues such as climate change, habitat loss, urbanization, and industrial agriculture. They can be used for beekeeping as they are pollinators, and can be used for wax, honey, venom, and combs.
Dorsilopha
The subgenus Dorsilopha belongs to genus Drosophila and consists of four species. The phylogenetic position of this group has been unclear for a long time, but recent studies have shown that the subgenus is positioned ancestral to the subgenus Drosophila.
Paterdecolyus
Paterdecolyus is a subgenus of "king crickets" in the genus Anabropsis: found in India and Tibet.
Prodaticus
Prodaticus is a subgenus of beetles of the genus Hydaticus in the family Dytiscidae. These 143 species are in the subgenus Prodaticus:
Sophophora
thumb|small Drosophila melanogaster fly. The paraphyletic subgenus Sophophora of the genus Drosophila was first described by Alfred Sturtevant in 1939. It contains the best-known drosophilid species, Drosophila melanogaster. Sophophora translates as carrier (phora) of wisdom (sophos). The subgenus is paraphyletic because the genus Lordiphosa and the species Hirtodrosophila duncani are also placed within this subgenus.
Catasigerpes
Oxypiloidea is a genus of praying mantis in the family Hymenopodidae. 25 species are accepted within two subgenera:
Chalicodoma
Chalicodoma is a subgenus of the bee genus Megachile in the family Megachilidae.
Lichnofugia
Lichnofugia is an Asian subgenus of bush crickets in the tribe Agraeciini: now placed within the genus Anelytra; they belonging to the 'conehead' subfamily Conocephalinae.
Dichaeta
Dichaeta is a subgenus of flies belonging to the family Ephydridae.
Gerocyptera
Gerocyptera is a subgenus of flies in the family Tachinidae.
Alpinobombus
Alpinobombus is a subgenus of bees within the bumblebee genus, Bombus. It is found from Northern Spain and Norway, east to the Himalayas and China.
Phloridosa
Phloridosa is a subgenus of the genus Drosophila.
Psilodorha
Psilodorha is a subgenus of the genus Drosophila.
