In Islam, taqiyya () is a concept that refers to a Muslim concealing their faith or religious identity to protect themselves from danger. Although the term stems mainly from discrimination against the minority Shiite tradition, it is also considered a legitimate practice under certain conditions in Sunni sources. The practice of concealing one's beliefs has existed since the early days of Islam; early Muslims did so to avoid persecution or violence by non-Muslim governments or individuals.

Islamofascism is a portmanteau of the words fascism and Islamism or Islamic fundamentalism, which advocate authoritarianism and violent extremism to establish an Islamic state, in addition to promoting offensive Jihad. For example, Qutbism has been characterized as an Islamofascist and Islamic terrorist ideology.

Islamo-leftism is a neologism designating a supposed proximity and laxity of certain left-wing ideologies, personalities or parties towards political Islam, or even Islamism. Composed of the prefix "Islamo-" and the noun "leftism", it was created by Pierre-André Taguieff in 2002, before being subsequently taken up by various media, intellectual, academic or political personalities. The relevance of the term is contested in particular by its instrumentalization and its stigmatizing aspect similar to "Judeo-Bolshevism".

Dhimmitude is a neologism characterizing the status of non-Muslims under Muslim rule, popularized by the Egyptian-born British writer Bat Ye'or in the 1980s and 1990s. It is constructed from the Arabic dhimmi, "non-Muslim living in an Islamic state". Akbarzadeh and Roose suggest that Ye'or equates Dhimmitude with servitude.
