Hispaniola is an island in the Greater Antilles of the Caribbean, located between Cuba and Puerto Rico. It is the most populous island in the West Indies and the second-largest by land area, after Cuba. Covering an area of , it is divided into two separate sovereign countries: the Spanish–speaking Dominican Republic () to the east and the French and Haitian Creole–speaking Haiti () to the west. The only other divided island in the Caribbean is Saint Martin, which is shared between France () and the Netherlands (). Île à Vache
Île-à-Vache, (French, , also expressed Île-à-Vaches, former Spanish name Isla Vaca; both translate to Cow Island; ) is a Caribbean island, one of Haiti's satellite islands. It lies in the Baie de Cayes about off the coast of the country's southwest peninsula, roughly between the town of Les Cayes and Pointe l'Abacou. It was formerly known by the name of Abacca. Administratively, it became a commune in 1976 as part of the Les Cayes Arrondissement in the Sud department.
