Isoindoles

In organic chemistry and heterocyclic chemistry, isoindole consists of a benzene ring fused with pyrrole. The compound is an isomer of indole. Its reduced form is isoindoline. The parent isoindole is a rarely encountered in the technical literature, but substituted derivatives are useful commercially and occur naturally. Isoindoles units occur in phthalocyanines, an important family of dyes. Some alkaloids containing isoindole have been isolated and characterized.

Captan is a general use pesticide (GUP) that belongs to the phthalimide class of fungicides. It is a white solid, although commercial samples appear yellow or brownish.

Tetramethrin is a potent synthetic insecticide in the pyrethroid family. It is a white crystalline solid with a melting point of 65–80 °C. The commercial product is a mixture of stereoisomers.

Folpet is the tradename for the organic compound with the formula C6H4(CO)2NSCCl3. It is a fungicide derived from phthalimide (C6H4(CO)2N-) and trichloromethylsulfenyl chloride. The compound is white although commercial samples can appear brownish. It is structurally related to Captan, which is also a trichloromethylsulfenyl-containing fungicide.
