The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO ) is the national space agency of India, headquartered in Bengaluru, Karnataka. It serves as the principal research and development arm of the Department of Space (DoS), overseen by the Prime Minister of India, with the Chairman of ISRO also serving as the chief executive of the DoS. It is primarily responsible for space-based operations, space exploration, international space cooperation and the development of related technologies. Sriharikota () is a barrier island off the Bay of Bengal coast located in the Shar Project settlement of Tirupati district in Andhra Pradesh, India. It houses the Satish Dhawan Space Centre, one of the two satellite launch centres in India (the other being SSLV Launch Complex, Kulasekarapattinam). ISRO launches satellites using multistage rockets such as the PSLV and the GSLV from the island. Sriharikota was selected by ISRO because of its proximity to the equator, it gives extra centripetal force from the rotation of Earth.

Vyommitra (Sanskrit: "space", "friend") is a humanoid robot with appearance of a woman designed for space travel. It was designed at the Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala and developed by ISRO to function aboard the spacecraft Gaganyaan, a crewed orbital spacecraft. Vyommitra was first unveiled on 22 January 2020 at the Human Spaceflight and Exploration Symposium in Bengaluru, Karnataka.

Kulasekarapattinam (also spelled Kulasekharapatnam and Kulasekarapatnam) is a town in the Thoothukudi district of Tamil Nadu, India. Historically, it was an important port on the Coromandel Coast, alongside Kaveripumpattinam (Poompuhar) and Arikamedu (near Pondicherry). It houses the currently under-construction SSLV Launch Complex, one of the two satellite launch centres in India (the other being Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota). After the construction work is completed, ISRO and private aerospace companies will launch satellites using multistage rockets such as the SSLV from Kulaseka
