Kunashir Island

Kunashir () or is the southernmost island of the Kuril Islands. The island has been under Russian administration since the end of World War II, when Soviet forces took possession of the Kurils. It is claimed by Japan as part of its "Northern Territories".

Yuzhno-Kurilsk (; ) is an urban locality (an urban-type settlement) and the administrative center of Yuzhno-Kurilsky District of Sakhalin Oblast, Russia. Population: It is the largest settlement on the Kunashir Island of the Kuril Islands.

Tyatya (, also spelled Tiatia and known as Chachadake (爺爺岳) in Japanese) is an active volcano located in the northeastern part of Kunashir Island, Kuril Islands, Russia. It is the highest peak on the island with an elevation of . Golovnino () is a village on the southern tip of Kunashir, the southernmost island in the Kuril Island chain. Administratively, it is classified as a rural locality (a selo) and is part of Yuzhno-Kurilsky District, one of the seventeen districts of Russia's Sakhalin Oblast.
