Diyarbakır is the largest Kurdish-majority city in Turkey. It is the administrative center of Diyarbakır Province. It is considered one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world, continually inhabited since c. 8000 BCE.

Siverek (; ; ) is a municipality and district of Şanlıurfa Province, Turkey. Its area is 3,936 km2, and its population is 267,942 (2022). Siverek is in the Şanlıurfa province but is geographically closer to the large city of Diyarbakır (approx. 83 km).

Suruç (; ; Sruḡ) is a municipality and district of Şanlıurfa Province, Turkey. Its area is 744 km2, and its population is 100,961 (2022). It is on a plain near the Syrian border southwest of the city of Urfa. Its inhabitants are Kurds.

Viranşehir () is a municipality and district of Şanlıurfa Province, Turkey. Its area is 2,297 km2, and its population is 207,315 (2022). It is a market town serving a cotton-growing area, 93 km east of the city Şanlıurfa and 53 km north-west of Ceylanpınar at the Syrian border. In Late Antiquity, it was known as Constantina or Constantia () by the Romans and Byzantines, and Tella by the local Assyrian/Syriac population.

Sarıkamış or Sarikamish (, ) is a town in Kars Province in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey. It is the seat of Sarıkamış District. Its population is 15,260 (2022).

Birecik (from the Arabic and Syriac al-Bīrah, meaning fortress) is a municipality and district of Şanlıurfa Province, Turkey. Its area is 912 km2, and its population is 93,866 (2023). It lies on the Euphrates.

On the border with Syria, it is reached by a long straight road D.905 across the plain south from Viranşehir. It forms a divided city with Ra's al-'Ayn in Syria and there is a border crossing.

Tuzluca (; ; or Тузлуджа) is a town in the Iğdır Province in the Eastern Anatolia region of Turkey. It is the seat of Tuzluca District. Tuzluca was elected from the CHP in the 2024 Turkish Local Elections, with Cemal Kurnaz serving as the mayor. According to the 2024 population census, the district's total population is 22,564. It lies near the border with Armenia.

Hilvan (, ) is a municipality and district of Şanlıurfa Province, Turkey. Its area is 1,111 km2, and its population is 42,218 (2022). It is 55 km north from the city of Şanlıurfa.

In the local elections of March 2019, Metin Baydilli was elected Mayor of Karaköprü. The current Kaymakam is Yakup Kılınçoğlu.
