Metteniusaceae
Metteniusaceae are a family of flowering plants, the only family in the order Metteniusales. It consists of about 10 genera and 50 species of trees, shrubs, and lianas, primarily of the tropics. The family was formerly restricted to just Metteniusa, but it is now expanded with a number of genera that were formerly placed in the widely polyphyletic Icacinaceae.
Metteniusa
Metteniusa is a genus of flowering plants in the family Metteniusaceae. It was named by Hermann Karsten in 1860 for the German botanist Georg Heinrich Mettenius. It has seven species. The type species is Metteniusa edulis.. "Metteniusaceae" was proposed by Adalbert Schnizlein and validated by Hermann Karsten in 1860.. The family is now placed in its own order, Metteniusales.

It consists of about 8 species of evergreen trees, from tropical northeastern Australia, New Caledonia, Africa and Asia. The exact number of species has been revised from 3 to 8, according to The Plant List. ==Description== All of the species have simple, smooth-edged, leathery leaves and much-branched panicles of small white flowers with recurving petals and conspicuous stamens. The fruits are small drupes with a fleshly appendage on one side

Oecopetalum
Oecopetalum is a genus of flowering plants in the family Metteniusaceae, native to Mexico and Central America. They are trees with edible fruits, and prefer to grow in the transition zone between cloud forests and tropical forests. Locals collect, roast, consume and occasionally sell the fruit, which is bitter enough to give Oecopetalum mexicanum the name cachichín in the Totonaca language, meaning "bitter fruit".
