Consolas is a monospaced typeface designed by Luc(as) de Groot. It is a part of the ClearType Font Collection, a suite of fonts that take advantage of Microsoft's ClearType font rendering technology. It has been included with Windows since Windows Vista, Microsoft Office 2007 and Microsoft Visual Studio 2010. It is the only standard Windows Vista font with a slash through the zero character. It is the default font for Microsoft Notepad starting with Windows 8.

OCR-B is a monospace font developed in 1968 by Adrian Frutiger for Monotype by following the European Computer Manufacturer's Association standard. Its function was to facilitate the optical character recognition operations by specific electronic devices, originally for financial and bank-oriented uses. It was accepted as the world standard in 1973. It follows the ISO 1073-2:1976 (E) standard, refined in 1979 ("letterpress" design, size I). Fixedsys is a family of raster monospaced fonts. The name means fixed system, because its glyphs are monospaced, or fixed-width (although bolded characters are wider than non-bolded, unlike fully monospaced fonts such as Courier). It is the oldest font in Microsoft Windows, and was the system font in Windows 1.0 and 2.0, where it was simply named System. For Windows 3.x, the system font was changed to a proportional sans-serif font named System, but Fixedsys remained the default font in Notepad.

OCR-A is a font issued in 1966 and first implemented in 1968. A special font was needed in the early days of computer optical character recognition, when there was a need for a font that could be recognized not only by the computers of that day, but also by humans. OCR-A uses simple, thick strokes to form recognizable characters. The font is monospaced (fixed-width), with the printer required to place glyphs  cm ( inch) apart, and the reader required to accept any spacing between  cm ( inch) and  cm ( inch).
