JKT48 (pronounced J-K-T-forty-eight) is Indonesia's premier girl group, established in 2011 as the first international sister group of Japan's AKB48. Based in Jakarta, the capital and largest city of Indonesia located on the northwest coast of the island of Java, the group has become a cultural phenomenon. The group does this by blending music, fan interaction, and performance into a unique idol experience. The group debuted in 2011 with nine members consisting of Angel, Anisa, Cherly, Christy, Devi, Felly, Gigi, Ryn, and Wenda. The band's music can be classified under the alternative pop genre, and the band has cited Coldplay and The Killers as major influences.
