Β-lactam molecule used as β-lactamase inhibitor to overcome antibiotic resistance in bacteria

Pemoline, formerly sold under the brand name Cylert among others, is a stimulant medication which was used in the treatment of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and narcolepsy. It has since been discontinued in most countries due to rare but serious liver toxicity. The medication was taken by mouth.

2-Oxazolidinone is a heterocyclic organic compound containing both nitrogen and oxygen in a 5-membered ring.

The oxazolidones and isoxazolidones are a set of six isomeric five-membered heterocyclic compounds consisting of a carbonyl group, an oxygen atom, a nitrogen atom with a hydrogen atom attached, and two methylene groups. The chemicals differ in the relative position of these groups around the ring, which results in different functional group combinations.

Sutezolid is an investigational new drug that is being evaluated for the treatment of extensively drug-resistant tuberculosis. It differs from linezolid by replacement of the morpholine oxygen with a sulfur atom. Like linezolid, sutezolid is a bacterial protein synthesis inhibitor. In preclinical studies, sutezolid demonstrated superior antituberculosis activity compared to linezolid.

Furaltadone is a chemical compound from the group of nitrofurans, as it contains a 5-nitrofuran ring. Furaltadone is classified as a synthetic antibiotic. It was patented in 1957.
