Platanias (Greek: Πλατανιάς) is a village and municipality on the Greek island of Crete. It is located about west from the city of Chania and east of Kissamos, on Chania Bay. The seat of the municipality is the village Gerani. Platanias (and the neighbouring village of Agia Marina) is a popular tourism village with beaches, several hotels, restaurants, bars, nightclubs and souvenir shops. The area is especially popular with Scandinavian tourists with the season running from April to October. Not far from the coast is the island of Agioi Theodoroi.

Kolymvari was formerly a municipality in the Chania regional unit, Crete, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it has been a municipal unit of the municipality Platanias. It was also formerly part of the Kissamos province, which covered the northwest of Chania Prefecture. Mousouroi (, ), is a former municipality in the Chania regional unit, Crete, Greece. Since the 2011 local government reform it is part of the municipality Platanias, of which it is a municipal unit. The municipal unit has an area of . The municipality is named after the medieval noble Mousouros family that existed in the area.

Alikianos () is the head village of the Mousouroi municipal unit in Chania regional unit, Crete located approximately 12.5 kilometers southwest of Chania. Alikianos is best known outside the island for the fierce fighting which took place there during the 1941 Battle of Crete, during which the 8th Greek Regiment (Provisional) aided by the local population, helped cover the retreat of the 10th New Zealand Division, to which it was attached. In retribution, the German paratroopers executed many civilians from Alikianos and the nearby villages.

Meskla (Μεσκλά) is a village in the municipality of Platanias, a regional unit of Chania, western Crete, in Greece. According to the 2021 census it has 268 inhabitants. It is built on an altitude of 200 meters, at the northern foothills of the White Mountains, in the valley of the river Keritis. It is 21 km away from the city of Chania and 4 km from the village of Fournes. In the past it was a community of the province of Kydonia which included, besides Meskla, the village of Zourva.
