Dornoch (; ; ) is a town, seaside resort, parish and former royal burgh in the county of Sutherland in the Highlands of Scotland. It lies on the north shore of the Dornoch Firth, near to where it opens into the Moray Firth to the east.

Golspie
Golspie ( , ) is a village and parish in Sutherland, Highland, Scotland, which lies on the North Sea coast in the shadow of Ben Bhraggie. It has a population of around 1,350.

Lairg

Lairg (, meaning "the shank/shin") is a village and parish in Sutherland, Scotland. It has a population of 891 and is at the south-eastern end of Loch Shin.

Durness
Durness () is a village and civil parish in the north-west Highlands of Scotland. It lies on the north coast of the country in the traditional county of Sutherland, around north of Inverness. The area is remote, and the parish is huge and sparsely populated, covering an area from east of Loch Eriboll to Cape Wrath, the most northwesterly point of the Scottish mainland.

Altnaharra
Altnaharra () is a small hamlet in Sutherland in the Highland region of northern Scotland. The hamlet is on the A836 road, close to its junction with the B873. The nearest villages are Lairg and Tongue. Lochs in the area include Loch Naver and Loch Eriboll.

Helmsdale
Helmsdale (, ) is a village on the east coast of Sutherland, in the Highland council area of Scotland. The modern village was planned in 1814 to resettle communities that had been removed from the surrounding straths as part of the Highland Clearances.
Kinlochbervie
Kinlochbervie (, ) is a scattered harbour village in the north west of Sutherland, in the Highland region of Scotland. It is the most northerly port on the west coast of Scotland.

Lochinver
Lochinver (Loch an Inbhir in Gaelic) is a village at the head of the sea loch Loch Inver, on the coast in the Assynt district of Sutherland, Highland, Scotland. A few miles north-east is Loch Assynt which is the source of the River Inver which flows into Loch Inver at the village. There are 200 or so lochans in the area, popular with anglers. Lochinver is dominated by the "sugar loaf" shape of Caisteal Liath, the summit peak of nearby Suilven.

Stoer () is a crofting township in the parish of Assynt, Sutherland, in the Highlands of Scotland and in the council area of Highland. It is located about five miles north of the village of Lochinver.

Ardgay ( or Àird Ghaoithe) ["high wind"] is a small Scottish village on the south west shore of the Dornoch Firth, Sutherland and is 1 mile south from Bonar Bridge and lies at the entrance to Strathcarron, the valley of the River Carron and is at the mouth of the Kyle of Sutherland.
Inchnadamph

Inchnadamph is a hamlet in Assynt, Sutherland, Scotland. The name is an anglicisation of the Gaelic name Innis nan Damh meaning "meadow of the stags". Assynt is a remote area with a low population density. Inchnadamph contains a few houses, a lodge, a hotel and a historic old church, graveyard and mausoleum.

Kylesku () is a fishing hamlet in Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands. Until 1984, it was the site of a free ferry. It takes its name from Caolas Cumhann, Gaelic for "narrow strait", which is the channel just to the west of the village that connects Loch Glencoul and Loch Glendubh to Loch a' Chàirn Bhàin .
Scourie
Scourie (), historically spelled "Scoury", is a village on the north west coast of Scotland, about halfway between Ullapool and Durness. The name comes from the Gaelic word Sheiling or shed, a stone-built place of shelter used during the summer months. It is in the civil parish of Eddrachillis, in the traditional county of Sutherland, now part of the Highland council area; the 2011 Census classified Scourie as 'Very remote rural' with an adult population of 132.

Invershin () is a scattered village in the Parish of Creich, south of Lairg and north of Bonar Bridge in the south of Sutherland in the Scottish Highlands and is in the Scottish council area of Highland.
Melvich
Melvich (from Norse Mel Vik – "sand dune bay" – rendered into ) is a village in the county of Sutherland on the north coast of Scotland. It is situated on the A836 road, near the mouth of the River Halladale. It has a successful Gaelic choir.
The A897 road which runs from Helmsdale, through the Strath of Kildonan and past Kinbrace, terminates at Melvich.

Rogart ( , , meaning "great enclosed field") is a parish in Sutherland, Highland, Scotland. The parish was the home of Major Andrew MacDonald, who fought in the French and Indian War.

Clachtoll
Clachtoll () is a coastal fishing and crofting village situated on the Bay of Clachtoll, in the ancient parish of Assynt, Sutherland county, in the Highland Council area on the north western edge of Scotland. It is in the postal district of Lairg, a larger village about inland. South of the village center is the start of the Clachtoll Peat Road––a hiking trail that extends into the Scottish Highlands with views of Suilven and other mountains in the distance.

Forsinard ( ) is a hamlet in the county of Sutherland in the Highland area of Scotland. It is located on the A897 road in Strath Halladale. It is served by a railway station on the Far North Line. The local hotel closed several years ago, but there is now a B&B just across the level crossing.

The village has a station on the Far North Line (also named Kinbrace). Few people live in the village, with the population standing at 51 in the 2011 Census.

Balnakeil
Balnakeil is a hamlet in the parish of Durness, Sutherland, Scottish Highlands, and is in the Scottish council area of Highland. It is on the north coast of Scotland around northwest of Durness. The ruin of Balnakeil Church is a scheduled monument. The Kyle of Durness is west of Balnakeil which gives its name to the Balnakeil Bay which the Kyle opens into.

Skerray () is a remote small crofting hamlet and fishing port on the north coast of Sutherland, Scotland. It is located by road northeast of Tongue and by road west of Thurso. Skerray is home to a community of artists and a group of tree planters.
Portnancon
Portnacon is a small remote crofting township, and former fishing station, on the west shore of Loch Eriboll in Sutherland, Scottish Highlands in the Scottish council area of Highland. The township is in the parish of Durness and Durness village lies west along the A838 road. The village of Laid is located south-west from Portnancon along the A838.

Fanagmore () is a hamlet in Sutherland, Highland, in far northwestern Scotland. It lies on the south shore of Loch Laxford, an inlet of the Atlantic Ocean. Fanagmore consists of three properties, a few farm buildings, a boat launch and a small harbour. There are tourist cruises from the nearby hamlet of Tarbet to Handa Island.

Pittentrail
Pittentrail () is a hamlet on the A839 road, in the Rogart parish in east Sutherland, in the Scottish Highlands. The River Fleet runs to the south. The settlement became better known in the area when Rogart railway station was built in the village. The station is still in use and operates as a request stop on the Far North Line, but the station buildings have been converted into private residential use. The station yard has been made into gardens, with old signs and other railway memorabilia lying about. The original sidings have been retained, and the train carriages sitting on them converted
