radiocarbon dating
technique based on carbon-14 decay to determine the age of organic materials
geochronology

radiometric dating
a technique used to date materials such as rocks or carbon
K–Ar dating
radiometric dating method
primordial nuclide
nuclides predating the Earth's formation (found on Earth)
uranium-lead dating
type of radiometric dating
uranium-thorium dating
radiometric dating method based on the degree to which secular equilibrium has been achieved between the parent U-234 and the daughter Th-230
argon–argon dating
method of radiometric dating
isotopic signature
characteristic set of ratios of stable or unstable isotopes
rubidium-strontium dating
radiometric dating technique for rocks and minerals based on the quantities of specific isotopes of rubidium (⁸⁷Rb) and strontium (⁸⁷Sr, ⁸⁶Sr)
cosmogenic nuclide
isotopes that are produced by interaction of cosmic rays with the nucleus of the atom
fission track dating
radiometric dating technique based on analyses of the damage trails, or tracks, left by fission fragments in certain uranium-bearing minerals and glasses
Oldest dated rocks
includes rocks over 4 billion years old from the Hadean Eon
samarium-neodymium dating
radiometric dating method useful for determining ages of rocks and meteorites
thermochronology
thumb|Approximate temperature curve within depths of Earth. Shows that it gets hotter with increased depth. Thermochronology is the study of the thermal evolution of a region of a planet. Thermochronologists use radiometric dating along with the closure temperatures that represent the temperature of the mineral being studied at the time given by the date recorded to understand the thermal history of a specific rock, mineral, or geologic unit. It is a subfield within geology, and is closely associated with geochronology.
isochron dating
technique of radiometric dating
pleochroic halo
Geological phenomenon
closure temperature
temperature threshold above which the age of an isotopic system is reset
