HTTPS
Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure (HTTPS) is an extension of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP). It uses encryption for secure communication over a computer network, and is widely used on the Internet. In HTTPS, the communication protocol is encrypted using Transport Layer Security (TLS) or, formerly, Secure Sockets Layer (SSL). The protocol is therefore also referred to as HTTP over TLS, or HTTP over SSL.
Signal
privacy-focused encrypted messaging app
end-to-end encryption
cryptographic paradigm involving uninterrupted protection of data traveling between two communicating parties
data breach
intentional or unintentional release of secure information to an untrusted environment
Let's Encrypt
certificate authority launched in 2015
Tuta
free and open-source end-to-end encrypted email software and host
Tox
distributed protocol for telephony and instant messaging
Temporal Key Integrity Protocol
a stopgap security protocol used in the IEEE 802.11 wireless networking standard; was deprecated in the 2012 revision of the 802.11 standard
Operation Trojan Shield
international police sting operation between 2018 and 2021
CCMP
Encryption protocol for Wireless LAN
Wire
instant messaging client
Server Name Indication
TLS extension, where a client states the hostname at the start of the handshake so that a server can present multiple certificates on the same address/port; so it can serve multiple HTTPS sites at the same IP address with different certificates
Q279182
Retroshare is a free and open-source peer-to-peer communication and file sharing app based on a friend-to-friend network built by GNU Privacy Guard (GPG). Optionally peers may exchange certificates and IP addresses to their friends and vice versa.
HTTPS Everywhere
browser extension for making web browsers use HTTPS instead of HTTP when possible
Automated Certificate Management Environment
protocol for automating interactions between certificate authorities and web servers
Mailfence
Mailfence is a Belgian encrypted email service with a focus on security and privacy that offers OpenPGP based end-to-end encryption and digital signatures for usage in emails. It was launched in November 2013 by ContactOffice Group, which has been operating an online collaboration suite since 1999.
secure communication
anonymous communicating between two entities
Domain fronting
censorship circumvention technique
cipher suite
Set of algorithms that help secure a network connection
Librem 5
privacy oriented smartphone
Wireless intrusion prevention system
network device that monitors the radio spectrum for the presence of unauthorized access points
Posteo
Posteo is an email service provider based in Berlin, Germany, offering paid email accounts for individuals and businesses. The service gained prominence during the aftermath of the post-2013 global surveillance disclosures, especially for its high standard security features and relative anonymity as it does not require any private information in the registration process.
