Sicily (Italian and ), officially the Sicilian Region, is an island in the central Mediterranean Sea and one of the twenty regions of Italy, situated south of the Italian Peninsula in continental Europe. With over 4.7 million inhabitants, including 1.2 million in and around the capital city of Palermo, it is both the largest and most populous island in the Mediterranean Sea.

Fluoro-edenite is a rare amphibole mineral that contains sodium, calcium, magnesium, aluminium, silicon, oxygen and fluorine. It belongs to the same family as the more common mineral edenite but has fluorine as a key component. Fluoro-edenite was first discovered in volcanic rocks near the town of Biancavilla on the south-western flank of Mount Etna in Sicily. It has since been reported in smaller amounts in other locations.

The Pantesco or is an Italian breed of donkey from the Mediterranean island of Pantelleria, south-west of Sicily. It is at high risk of extinction; its conservation status was listed as "critical" in 2007. It is one of the eight autochthonous donkey breeds of limited distribution recognised by the Ministero delle Politiche Agricole Alimentari e Forestali, the Italian ministry of agriculture and forestry.
