Silphidae
Silphidae is a subfamily of Staphlinidae beetles that are also known commonly as large carrion beetles, carrion beetles or burying beetles. There are two tribes: Silphini and Nicrophorini. Members of Nicrophorini are sometimes known as burying beetles or sexton beetles. The number of species is relatively small, at around two hundred. They are more diverse in the temperate region although a few tropical endemics are known. Both tribes feed on decaying organic matter such as dead animals. The tribes differ in which uses parental care and which types of carcasses they prefer. Silphini are consid

Diamesus is a genus of rather large carrion beetle with two species distributed in tropical Asia and Australia. Like other Silphinae, it has an antenna with 11 segments. About 3 or 4 abdominal segments are visible beyond the tip of the elytra. The elytra themselves have longitudinal keels. The type species is Diamesus osculans. The larvae are broad and flat and somewhat cockroach-like (blattiform).

Phosphuga
Phosphuga is a European genus of carrion beetle, whose sole member is the species Phosphuga atrata. The beetle is up to 15mm long and has an elongated neck that it uses to reach into snail shells, which it sprays with a digestive fluid. The beetle feeds on live snails, insects and earthworms, as well as on carrion. Newly moulted beetles are brownish in color, older ones are black. The larvae are black and flattened and feed on snails as well. They pupate in the ground. Adults are flightless, lacking flight muscles.
