It is the third largest city and third largest metropolitan area in Norway (through conurbation with neighboring Sandnes Municipality) and the administrative center of Rogaland county. Boknafjord
Boknafjord or Boknafjorden () is a fjord located in Rogaland county, Norway. The huge fjord lies between the cities of Stavanger and Haugesund and dominates the central part of the county. The main part of the fjord is shared between the municipalities of Kvitsøy, Stavanger, Tysvær, Bokn, and Karmøy. There are dozens of smaller fjords that branch off the main part of the fjord, reaching most municipalities in the county. Ryfylke
Ryfylke is a traditional district in the northeastern part of Rogaland county, Norway. The district, encompassing about 60% of the county's area is located northeast of the city of Stavanger and east of the city of Haugesund. It includes the mainland, which is northeast and east of the Boknafjorden and east of the Høgsfjorden. It also consists of the islands on the south side of the Boknafjorden. To the east, Ryfylke borders the districts of Setesdal and Sirdal, to the south is Jæren, and to the west is Haugalandet. Ryfylke is one of the 15 districts in Western Norway.

Åmøy is an island in Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The island lies just north of the city of Stavanger in a group of islands. Høgsfjord
Høgsfjorden is a fjord in Rogaland county, Norway. It lies in Stavanger Municipality, Sandnes Municipality, Strand Municipality, and Gjesdal Municipality. The innermost part of the fjord is located at the village of Frafjord in Gjesdal Municipality. It flows west to Dirdal and then heads northwards. At the village of Forsand, the Lysefjord branches off to the northeast. The Høgsfjorden continues to the northwest past the islands of Idsal and Idse before emptying into the Horgefjorden (just east of the city of Stavanger) and ultimately into the vast Boknafjorden.

Gandsfjorden is a fjord in Rogaland county, Norway. The long Gandsfjorden is an arm off of the large Boknafjorden. It runs between the mainland and the Stavanger Peninsula in the western parts of Stavanger Municipality and Sandnes Municipality. The entire west and south side of the Gandsfjorden is highly developed and urban as this is the location of the cities of Stavanger and Sandnes. Breiavatnet
Breiavatnet is a small lake in Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The lake is very shallow, only a few feet deep. The lake gets its water from the Kannikbekken stream, which flows from the lake Mosvatnet and runs through the city (the stream was put mostly underground in culverts and pipes in 1899). A decorative fountain was installed in the middle of the lake in 1924.

Mosvatnet
Mosvatnet is a lake in Stavanger Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. The lake lies just west of the centre of the city of Stavanger in the Eiganes og Våland borough. At , it is the third largest lake in the city of Stavanger after Hålandsvatnet and Stora Stokkavatnet. The lake reaches a maximum depth of and it lies at an elevation of above sea level. The lake flows out through a small stream that runs through underground culverts to the Breiavatnet lake before emptying into the nearby Byfjorden.
