Sulfate-reducing bacteria
microorganisms which "breathe" sulfates
Geobacter
Geobacter is a genus of bacteria. Geobacter species use anaerobic respiration to alter the redox state of minerals and many pollutants, a trait that makes them useful in bioremediation. Geobacter was the first organism described with the ability to completely oxidize organic compounds to carbon dioxide, and transfer these electrons to metals such as Fe(III), Mn(IV), and U(VI). Geobacter species are also found to be able to transfer electrons to conductive surfaces such as graphite electrodes. They are found in anaerobic habitats including wetlands, subsurface aquifers, soils, and aquatic sedim

Syntrophobacterales
The Syntrophobacterales are an order of the bacterial phylum Desulfobacterota. It is the only member of the class Syntrophobacteria. All genera are strictly anaerobic. Many members of the family Syntrophobacteraceae are sulfate-reducing. Some species are motile by using one polar flagellum.
Syntrophus
Syntrophus is a Gram negative bacterial genus from the family of Syntrophaceae.
Thermodesulfobacteriota
The Thermodesulfobacteriota, or Desulfobacterota, are a phylum of anaerobic Gram-negative bacteria. Many representatives are sulfate-reducing bacteria, others can grow by disproportionation of various sulphur species, reduction or iron, or even use external surfaces as electron acceptors (exoelectrogens). They have highly variable morphology: vibrio, rods, cocci, as well as filamentous cable bacteria. Individual members of Desulfobacterota are also studied for their bacterial nanowires or syntrophic relationships.left|thumb|Phylogenetic tree of prokaryotes based on ribosomal proteins and [[RNA
