Esch-sur-Alzette
Esch-sur-Alzette (, ; ; or Esch an der Alzig) is a city in Luxembourg and the country's second-most populous commune, with a population of 37,922 inhabitants, . It lies in the south-west of the country, on the border with France and in the valley of the Alzette, which flows through the city. The city is usually referred to as just Esch; however, the full name distinguishes it from the village and commune of Esch-sur-Sûre which lies further north. The country's capital, Luxembourg City, is roughly to the north-east.
Echternach
Echternach (, ; or locally ) is a commune with city status in the canton of Echternach, in eastern Luxembourg. Echternach lies near the border with Germany, and is the oldest town in Luxembourg.
Ettelbruck
Ettelbruck ( , ) is a commune with city status in northern Luxembourg, with a population of inhabitants.
Differdange
Differdange (; or locally ; ) is a commune with city status in south-western Luxembourg, west from the country's capital. It lies near the borders with Belgium and France and it is located in the canton of Esch-sur-Alzette. With a population of over 30,000, Differdange is the country's third largest city. It is also the main town of the commune, and other towns within the commune include Lasauvage, Niederkorn, Fousbann, and Oberkorn.
Diekirch
Diekirch (; ; or (locally) ; from Diet-Kirch, i.e. "people's church") is a commune with city status in north-eastern Luxembourg, in the canton of Diekirch and, until its abolition in 2015, the district of Diekirch. The town is situated on the banks of the Sauer river.
Vianden
Vianden (; or (locally) ) is a commune with city status in north-eastern Luxembourg, with a population of 2,221 as of 2025. It is part of the canton of the same name. Vianden lies near the border with Germany, along the Our river, being the only place where the border is not defined by that river. It is known for Vianden Castle.
Grevenmacher
Grevenmacher (; ) is a commune with city status in eastern Luxembourg, near the border with Germany. It gives its name to the canton of Grevenmacher, and, until its abolition in 2015, the district of Grevenmacher. The town is situated on the left bank of the river Moselle, in a wine growing region.
Dudelange
Dudelange (; ; ) is a commune with city status in southern Luxembourg. It is the fourth-most populous commune, with 22,043 inhabitants. Dudelange is situated close to the border with France.
Wiltz
Wiltz (; or (locally) ) is a commune with city status in north-western Luxembourg, situated in the canton of the same name. Wiltz is situated on the banks of the river Wiltz. It was also a battleground in the Battle of the Bulge, near the end of World War II. A local airfield (near the village of Noertrange) was used by both sides of the conflict, depending on the location of the Front.
Remich
Remich (; ) is a commune with city status in south-eastern Luxembourg with a population of 4,101 inhabitants . It is situated in the canton of the same name. Remich lies on the left bank of the river Moselle, which forms part of the border between Luxembourg and Germany. The commune is the smallest in Luxembourg by surface area.

The A6 motorway from Luxembourg to Brussels, also designated European route E25, runs through Mamer.
