Valka (; ; ) is a town and the centre of Valka Municipality in the Vidzeme region of Latvia, on the border with Estonia along both banks of the river Pedele.

Alūksne () is a town on the shores of Lake Alūksne in the Vidzeme region of Latvia near the borders with Estonia and Russia. It is the seat of the Alūksne municipality. Alūksne is the highest city in Latvia, being located in the East Vidzeme Upland at 217 m above sea level.

Ērģeme () is a village in Valka municipality, in the Vidzeme region of Latvia. It is the centre of Ērģeme parish. It is the location of the ruins of Ērģeme Castle, an Ordensburg which was built in the 14th century in place of an ancient Estonian hillfort, then part of Sakala county.
