By car, it is about northeast of the city of Tromsø. The Langsund Tunnel is a proposed undersea tunnel which will connect the islands of Ringvassøya and Reinøya. When built, the tunnel will replace the ferry service from Hansnes to the nearby islands of Karlsøya, Vannøya, and Reinøya.

The village was the administrative centre of the old Tranøy Municipality until 1 January 2020 when it was merged into Senja Municipality.

The town of Harstad is located about north of Fjelldal, and Harstad/Narvik Airport, Evenes is reachable by a 15-minute car drive to the southeast. Fjelldal Chapel is located in this village.

Many of the buildings in the harbour area are about 200 years old. The soil is very fertile and therefore suitable for farming, which is why there is an agricultural school at Senja Upper Secondary School. The lake Lysvatnet is located just west of the village.

Fjordgård lies on the west side of the fjord Ørnfjorden, which is an arm that branches off of the main Øyfjorden. The island village of Husøy lies about across the fjord within sight of Fjordgård.

There are several villages located around Kaldfjord including Kjosen, Ersfjordbotn, and Kvaløysletta. Kaldfjord is considered part of the Kvaløysletta urban area.

Akkarvik
Akkarvik is a small village along the Langfjorden in Skjervøy Municipality, in the northern part of Troms county, Norway. It is located about south of the village of Årviksand and about west of the village of Arnøyhamn on the south side of the island of Arnøya. It has been populated since the 17th century. At its peak during the 1950s, about 400 people lived there. At that time, there was a shop, post office, and a bakery. By the year 2001, however, the population has dwindled down to 24 people in 14 private homes. In 2021, the population are down to 10.
Årstein
or is the administrative centre of Gratangen Municipality in Troms county, Norway. The village is located on the north side of the Gratangsfjorden at the narrowest point along the fjord. The Årstein Bridge crosses the fjord here. The village is located about northwest of the village of Fjordbotn (at the head of the fjord) and about from the village of Hilleshamn (where the Gratangsfjorden empties into the Astafjorden).

The village is located on the mainland of Norway, along the Dyrøysundet strait, looking across the strait at the island of Dyrøya to the southwest. Aglapsvik is a small, isolated, coastal village in Senja Municipality in Troms county in Northern Norway. It is located along the Malangen fjord, about north of the town of Finnsnes. The name of the village comes from the nearby mountain Aglapen. The area is mostly hilly and forested and there is one small road (County Road 263) passing through. There are about 50 residents.

Botnhamn is a village in Senja Municipality in Troms county, Norway. The small village is located more than north of the Arctic Circle on the northern part of the large island of Senja. The village lies along the west side of the Stønnesbotn fjord. The population (2001) was 308. Botnhamn experiences warm summers and long, dark winters. Botnhamn is located about northwest of the village of Gibostad and northwest of the town of Finnsnes.

Kilbotn
Kilbotn is a village in Harstad Municipality in Troms county, Norway. The village is located about south of the center of the town of Harstad, along the Vågsfjorden on the east side of Hinnøya island. The villages of Fauskevåg and Sørvika are just a few kilometres to the south of Kilbotn. The population (2001) of the village is 332, but since 2002 it has been considered a part of the Harstad urban area.
