Ouagadougou or Wagadugu (; , ; ; , ) is the capital and largest city of Burkina Faso, and the administrative, communications, cultural and economic centre of the nation. It has a population of 2,415,266 in 2019. The city's name is often shortened to Ouaga. The inhabitants are called ouagalais. The spelling of the name Ouagadougou is derived from the French orthography common in former French African colonies.

Djenné (; also known as Djénné, Jenné, and Jenne) is a town and urban commune in the Inland Niger Delta region of central Mali. The town is the administrative centre of the Djenné Cercle, one of the eight subdivisions of the Mopti Region. The commune includes ten of the surrounding villages and in 2009 had a population of 32,944.

Bobo-Dioulasso ( , ) (often colloquially called Bobo) is a city in Burkina Faso with a population of 1,129,000 (); it is the second-largest city in the country, after Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso's capital. The name means "home of the Bobo-Dioula".

Kankan (Mandingo: Kánkàn; N’ko: ߞߊ߲ߞߊ߲߫) is the largest city in Guinea in land area, and the second largest in population, with a population of 410,542 people as of 2026. The city is located in eastern Guinea about east of the national capital Conakry.

Oualata or Walāta () (also Biru in 17th century chronicles) is a small oasis town in southeast Mauritania, located at the eastern end of the Aoukar basin. Oualata was important as a caravan city in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries as the southern terminus of a trans-Saharan trade route and now it is a World Heritage Site.

Gaoua is a market town in southern Burkina Faso. The population was 45,284 in a 2019 census. Located in the red earth, green hills, and fast flowing streams of southwestern Burkina Faso, Gaoua is the capital of Poni Province and forms a sort of capital for the sacred rites and bush lore of the Lobi peoples. According to local myth, Gaoua was founded when the Lobi migrated across from northern Ghana where they found the Gan people occupying the territory. As a result, they named the trek across to Gaoua Gan-houo meaning "route of the Gan people".

Bondoukou (var. Bonduku, Bontuku) is a city in northeastern Ivory Coast, 420 km northeast of Abidjan. It is the seat of both Zanzan District and Gontougo Region. It is also a commune and the seat of and a sub-prefecture of Bondoukou Department.

Kangaba is a town, commune, and seat of the Kangaba Cercle in the Koulikoro Region of south-western Mali.

Salaga is a town and is the capital of East Gonja district, a district in the Savannah Region of north Ghana. Salaga had a 2012 settlement population of 25,472 people. Salaga was the largest slave market in the 18th and 19th centuries.

Tengréla (also spelled Tingréla) is a town in the far north of Ivory Coast near the border with Mali. It is a sub-prefecture and the seat of Tengréla Department in Bagoué Region, Savanes District. Tengréla is also a commune.

Samatiguila (also spelled Samatiglia) is a town in northwestern Ivory Coast. It is a sub-prefecture of and the seat of Samatiguila Department in Kabadougou Region, Denguélé District. Samatiguila is also a commune. It is located approximately 15 km north of Kimbirila-Sud, and 40 km north of Odienné, the nearest main town and the capital of the Denguélé District. Samatiguila is well known among Ivorians for the large number of traders and bus companies that originate from the town but that operate all over Ivory Coast.

Moussadou or Moussadougou (formerly Musardu) is a town and sub-prefecture in the Beyla Prefecture in the Nzérékoré Region of south-eastern Guinea.
