An irregular piece of sheet copper alloy with four holes close to the upper and lower edges, placed in a diagonal axis. This object is likey to be a lorica squamanta, or scale armour, of roman date. This type of armour was predmninantly used by the cavalry. Similar scales can be seen in "Roman Military Buckles and Military Fittings", Appels and Laycock, page 62-3.
