This is a mosaic hammer, used by a stonemason to cut cubes of marble. It is missing its handle. The hammer is one of a collection of stonemasonry tools given to the Museum by Mr Ben Hingston, a London stonemason who stopped working in the practical side of the trade in 1958. Mr Hingston acquired it from Mr Watts, a Dagenham stonemason – it was common practice for masons to borrow tools from each other – but never used it himself. It was repaired by L.
