Copper Byzantine pentanummium (5 nummi) (c.AD 498-641) with facing helmeted bust on the obverse and possibly a large E or Monogram type with a cross on the reverse, both obscured by fossil accretion, which looks like pale corrosion product. There is a large variety of pentanummia from the reigns of Justinian I (527-565) to Heraclius (610-641). The coin is most likely to have come from this period (Sam Moorhead pers comm).
