A corroded and squashed copper-alloy open type thimble or 'sewing ring' of late medieval to early post-medieval date. The ring is undecorated other than the functional punches, arranged fairly regularly in three rows. The metal has corroded to a red-brown colour with a dark-green patina where it survives. Sewing rings tend to date to the late medieval or early post-medieval periods (Holmes 1988, 3).
